One Year Later

March 31, 2008

I will just post a poem which my mother wrote. As for my feelings, I will just keep it within myself!!!

American Idol 2008 – Top 10

March 26, 2008

Here are this weeks bottom three:

Ramiele Malubay, Jason Castro and Chikezie.

This Jason guy has too much support from teenage girls, so he won’t go. And, considering that it was not the best performance from Brooke White, she may be in the bottom 3 as well. And, after what happened last week, I am not sure Carly Smithson is as safe as she was perceived to be.

Undoubtedly Michael Johns and David Cook were the best performers of the night. For a change Kristy Lee Cook was good, with a brilliant song choice. Certainly, David Archuleta will sail through easily.

A Cat Has Nine Lives

March 25, 2008

Two down, seven more to go!!!

I was driving back home after a hectic Sunday. My wife was sitting next to me. My sister-in-law, her husband and kid were in the back seat.

I had entered the city. I had passed a traffic light and could see that the next traffic light had turned from red to green. There was sufficient time to reach that intersection. I was within speed limits, driving at 45 mph in the middle lane and there were no vehicles in front of me. The cars on the other two lanes had not yet started. I was driving fine since I had the green anyway.

My sister-in-law screamed saying that a vehicle from the opposite direction was cutting the red light. Immediately I slowed down a bit. But, I had already come to the intersection. I put on brakes so fast. The guy who had cut red light had a huge trailer attached to his pick up truck and he stopped right in the middle of the intersection. I knew I had to move to the right in order to avoid hitting the pick up truck head-on. I swerved to the right and thank God the car in the right lane had not yet started. For a second, the pick up truck and my car had stopped right at the intersection, within a whisker’s width.

Normally, I would have made a big deal out of this. I was so shocked by the turn of events, that I just drove away the next second. It was such a narrow miss. Thanks to my sister-in-law, we are all still in one piece.

And, shame on all the idiots who skip the red light.

American Idol 2008 – Top 11

March 19, 2008

Going by what judges say and how America thinks, don’t be surprised to see the following in the bottom 3 tonight:

Amanda Overmyer

Kristy Lee Cook

Chikezie

Although, I thought Krist sang pretty well. Judges were too harsh on her and just want her to go. Overall, only three singers were good – David Archuleta, Syesha Mercado and Ramiele Malubay. The rest were all horrible, led by Brooke White.

tAta – Once more

March 17, 2008

tata.jpgtAta‘s first birthday after his death. If he were alive, he would have completed 105 today. A truly lucky human being. He was always healthy and died very peacefully. He was one of the few people who had a very big influence on me. I miss him. But looking back, his life should be celebrated. May his soul rest in peace.

I really don’t have anything more to write.

American Idol 2008 – Top 12

March 12, 2008

So, who’s going to get voted out tonight? If you want my honest opinion Krist Lee Cook should go home today.

America is wild and unpredictable sometimes. But, it’s really hard to keep Kristy in the game. She sang horribly!!!

What was surprising yesterday was that good singers like David Archuleta, Ramiele Malubay and Syesha Mercado did not perform well whereas mediocre ones like Amanda Overmyer and Chikezie won more hearts.

This year’s bunch is quite talented. So, it’s not very easy to predict who will be in the bottom three. I think David Hernandez may have a place there. No, not because he is a former stripper who danced naked for men, but because he sucked (no pun intended….oooops!). On the other hand, that itself may be a reason for him to have a bigger fan following. Chikezie, Syesha and Amanda don’t have a big fan following. So, don’t be surprised if one of them land up in bottom three.

In a few hours we will know who gets voted out. I will put my money on Kristy Lee Cook. If she doesn’t go home, then America didn’t vote correctly, it’s as simple as that!!!

Chak De India

March 10, 2008

Now that the Indian media has branded this as the worst ever day for Indian hockey, for once something other than cricket is on every Indian’s mind. Pargat Singh and Dhanraj Pillai have been calling for a management overhaul at IHF since the news broke out that we will not be going to Beijing for the Olympics.

For a second, let’s stop reading the headlines which are so colorful and appealing from “National Game or National Shame” to “Black Day!!!” Let’s forget for a minute that KPS Gill is a “Good Cop Gone Bad” or that Mani Shankar Aiyer has expressed his inability to interfere in the affairs of IHF. Can the players and the public breathe and relax for a few dyas, please?

My wife summed it up well. Indian media does not care when we do well in Indian hockey, but that’s all the news is when the Indian hockey team sucks. The media suddenly realizes the importance of our “National Game”. Oh well, what happened today is almost like singing National Anthem backwards…please!!!

I am very sad too. I always knew “Chak De” was just a movie. We are an emotional bunch and sometimes we go too far and assume that reel life is almost the same as real life.

Sure, bring in the bricks and let there be a top level overhaul in Indian hockey. But, do it with some sense, respect and decency. More than the Indian Hockey Federation, the Indian media should be ashamed at the way in which the whole episode has turned out. Whatever happened to responsible journalism?
